Sunday Stitches for 1-1-23

I made some good progress on my Sunday Stitches project today.   I had hoped to get the dog stitched but decided to continue on and got the 5 golden rings and the number on it.  All that’s left to do is the Santa.    I did change the color of the number and will continue that color change for all the other 11 blocks.  It was charted to be the same brown on all of them as the dog but who doesn’t need more green! There are several shades of green in these charts, so I haven’t decided yet if I’ll make them all this shade of green or change some of them up.

And because you can never have too many FCAs going at the same time, here’s the next one.  This was one I put aside yesterday because I wasn’t getting the coverage I liked with the thread/fabric combination I was using.  In look at charts today, I

New Year’s Day 2023 – what a mess!

It was fun stitching in the new year but what a mess I need to get squared away today.  Project bags tossed about everywhere.  So I need to make sure everything got put back in them. There’s one where I had just two flosses in the bag so don’t think I pulled all the rest of them but need to check my box of floss to go back into the stash to make sure a floss ring didn’t get in there by mistake.

Overall, it was fun to do the sort of 12 x 12 format but next year, I think I will just pick a few (not 12) WIPS to work on.   All that changing out doesn’t give you much time to actually stitch on each one.  But it was fun to try once.

Here’s my first finished stitch of 2023!    It’s Chubby Bird and I had finished the stitching and put 2023 for the year on it two days ago (because I plan to give it as a gift ornament finish later this year so wanted this year’s date on it).  However, when I pulled it out to take a photo of it this morning, I realized I hadn’t added my initials to it so stitched those in this morning making it officially  “finished” today.  I think everyone should stitch a chubby bird or two – it is so cute and a quick little stitch.

Chubby Bird – Jeanette Douglas – 1-1-23

Today is Sunday Stitches day (I had to look to make sure it was Sunday – my days are so messed up again with the holiday and having days off work).  To start the year off right, I will work on a Sunday Stitches project. And I’m carrying forward my “theme” for Sunday Stitches of stitching projects, large or small, that either by image or words or chart name tie it to a Christmas song.

Since I started one of the Prairie Schooler Santas from 12 Days of Christmas charts last night, that is the one I will stitch on for a bit today.   I’m working on the Five Golden Rings chart.  This is the one where I had almost half the dog done last night and I messed up and had too many stitches (didn’t have the jog in at the top of the back leg) so ripped it back to the top of the leg.    I’m going to try to get the dog done today before I set this aside – maybe- because the New Years’ start is calling to me loudly.   But I will work on this for a bit once I get off the computer before switching.   This group of PS charts for the 12 Days of Christmas, Judy and I are hoping to get one chart stitched every two months and these I will finish as separate flat folds.

And here is what is calling to me greatly – Three Things Sampler that Judy and I (and several others I think) are starting along on for New Year’s Day.  I started in the center because my fabric will be a bit tightish from left to right so wanted to make sure it was centered.

three things sampler fabric and flossHere’s the chart and as discussed previously I’ll be making some changes to it, leaving some stuff out, changing how the wording is laid out, etc.  So I started with the top alphabet because that was the easiest to get centered and I’m not sure at the moment if I’ll put that floral design above the alphabet on mine or not.   All DMC and my fabric is 20 count Colour & Cotton in the color Salt Rock

Here’s how far I got last night.  I started with the letter J – the beginning of that is the center – and moved to the right and then went back to the left side and just couldn’t stay awake to finish off that letter H.  But I want to get back to this later today. The photo below is true fabric color.

More coffee is in order tho – caffinated kind – after being up late the last three nights stitching as I get all the project bags put away. Thanks to all the people who eat pork for luck on New Year’s Day, pork was on sale and I have a HUGE roast in the fridge. Very huge for one person but can you say leftovers.  I love roasts done with potatoes and carrots and onions cook with them and then will turn some into pulled pork to be put in the freezer.   With the prices these days it was too good a deal to pass up. I had thought about making it today but have puttered around too much before figuring out how long it will need to roast – yep too late to want to get it started today, so that is planned for tomorrow to get it in early while I’m watching the Rose Bowl Parade.

The sleet of yesterday is melting but that just adds more dampness to the air so it feels colder than it really is, but the sun is shining and the squirrels are scurrying about on the hill outside my door. Enough procrastinating – time to get this mess cleared away.

Oh – and I had said that the recipients of the Flash Challenge Adoptions of charts would be announced today.  I lied – because I have several more charts to add into the FCA and want to get them all out there so announcements will be made next weekend.  So here’s another FCA if you are interested (and follow the rules which can be found at be top of the blog).   Once the FCA is closed (which can be any random amount of time that each one is open), I will be closing/turning off the comments since the previous FCAs all had people leaving comments to enter well after the blogs posts had been updated that a particular FCA had been closed which makes the whole random number generator thing more time consuming since I had to delete those before generating. But if you’ve stuck with me thru this rambling blog post, here’s the new chart up for adoption.

So far the random thing has not picked a person to get more than one chart so they are going to lots of different people.

WIP # 10 and the new start Santa

It’s 11:55 PM here and I’ve just put aside the last two I was working on.    WIP #10 – just a bit more of the leaves fill in and vines and that burgundy flower on the top

And then my new start which does not look like much because I had about half the dog body done and realized I had done something crazy and messed up so ripped back to where I went wrong so that’s all that’s showing.

And now it is officially 2023 so HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!  May it be all you want it to be.

Now, need to get a soda, and pull out my New Year’s Day start.  Three Things Sampler.  Need to figure out where I want to start on that one because I’m changing up some of it and leaving some of it out and hopefully I left myself some really good notes when I was working on that about two weeks ago. 🙂

This was a very fun day of stitching but I’ll be glad when I get all the project bags put back in their baskets.  There are a couple I stitched on today that I’m going to move into the basket of things I switch back and forth on because I forgot how fun they were to stitch and how beautiful the colors.
