It’s been a while since I spent the majority of the day sewing -but indeed I have. But it’s quitting time and time to go find a comfy chair and knit for a while.
After taking one row of blocks off, laying them out in the right order, I again picked them up and turned the row and sewing it wrong AGAIN!! Sheesh — many bad words said. Ripped again and managed to get the darn thing done corrrectly.
Here it is so far
The outer border that’s on it right now was going to be purple all the way around but of course since I made the first mistake of cutting too many pieces, I didn’t have enough left to do the side borders. Nor enough red to to all. Since it’s already a riot of color, might as well have different colored borders – both in the same print. So it’s on to the pieced borders next. The rectangles in my pieced border will be a bit shorter than the original drawing — again thanks to cutting too many pieces and sorting myself on fabric. Who would think such a simple design would give me so many fits. LOL But it will all work – I can use the extra pieces I cut and all will be well.
I’ve already been eyeing up a few other fabrics in the stash planning a second quilt from this pattern. It really is quick and easy if, unlike me, you actually cut and stitch things correctly.
Definitely time for a coffee break since I sewed one row of my quilt on upside down! LOL I knew I should have laid it out to make sure I had it turned correctly but didn’t bother — hence the ripping out I just finished. I’ve got it all layed in the right order so I can get the last two rows sewn together and move on to the borders.
Also got a double batch of banana bread made – one loaf and the rest I put in the giant muffin pans – easier to grab and take to work – so probably have to do a little taste testing with my coffee.
Also got the heel turned on the cable sock. It called for a “dutch” heel – slightly different from the ones I normally use so gave it a try. Will have to see how it looks in the finished sock but I think I like the way I normally do it better. But always good to try something new.
I’m back in the BLACK!! Used 7 yards this week which puts me a whole 4.5 yards to the good stashbusting wise. Better than being in the red.
I got all my NQD Five Square blocks made (it’s sideways in the photo) so now on to the rest of the print sashing today. It will be a bright and cheery quilt and I think will be one of my donation quilts for the Komen Fund Golf Outing Auction later this summer.
I also made progress on one of the socks I’m working on.
Check out that cable. There’s just one twisty cable down the ankle of each sock. The downside – this one’s going to be to small for me and I so love the feel of this yarn. Oh well, my sister reaps the benefits of when I make a sock too small and she’ll love them. I do plan to make this pattern for myself tho – just need to add more stitches and a bit larger needle.
