Why is it taking me so long to make one little quilt block! LOL Could be ’cause I kept cutting things the size I wrote on my pattern page but that was the cutting size, not finished size. Sheesh! And yes, I cut everything too small and it wasn’t until I had it nearly all sewn that I realized what I had done.
Back to square one – recut everything correctly and the block is finally done except for the applique that gets added. Whew! What a mess – part regular pieced, part paper pieced, part applique – and a whole lot of little fabric pieces tossed around that I need to go clean up and then maybe later tonight or tomorrow I can start cutting into those batiks!
As I was standing there ironing – the ironing board in front of my breakfast bar – I thought “why does it smell like wet dog in here!??” Oh yeah – I forgot I set a shawl in to soak on the other side of the breakfast bar — wet sheep not wet dog. So I finally got that on the blocking boards after trying to figure out exactly where to put it. It’s one heck of a big shawl.
This is the one I made from just random sock yarns. I wanted a big cozy shawl that I could wrap all up in during the winter while watching tv — or perfect for a crisp fall morning to sit on the patio and sip my coffee — and that’s exactly what I got – huge. It’s laying on the diagonal on the block boards on my queen size bed and I had to fold the ends in . I didn’t get the threads all woven in before I blocked it (if I’m in a blocking mood – just go with it and not stop to bury those ends or the blocking mood may pass!) The multicolor yarn is actually very washed out in the flash – it’s a dark fall colored blend of green oranges, reds and golds. Once it’s dry – which it nearly is since I turned two fans on it – I’ll get a photo outside so the colors show bit more true. Then I’ll be able to add it to my Sticks ‘n Strings page — one more UFO out of the UFO pile and finished this year. The center spine measures about 45″ long and it’s got to be about 100 – 110″ from tip to tip across the top.
I got a better photo this afternoon of my That Nice Stitch cowl outside. The colors are pretty true to color in this photo and I love the diagonal bands of stockinette and then that “nice stitch” rows.
Is it nap time yet??? No? – well then I’ll go make dinner instead.
