There’s a Quaker Yarn Stretcher shawl pattern on Ravelry that I’ve had my eye on. But I wanted to finish my TGV Camp Loopy project first (Quaker is by the same designer as TGV – Susan Ashcroft). Then I found the Ravelry group for the designer (Stitchnerds) and there are ongoing KALs for many of the patterns. The one for Quaker showed all these lovely handspun yarns they were knitting the shawl with. I have no handspun yarns so I told friend Judy I just might have ordered some. I’m not sayin that she might have too……no I would never say that….especially since it might have been one of those spooky things we were both doing at the same time and discussed after the fact – but that would only be true IF Judy ordered handspun yarns too. (insert innocent look here)
Anyway these are the ones I received today and they are even more lovely in person. The shiny ones have bamboo in them so the flash reflection is making them look a bit more shiny than they are. The one on the bottom is Shetland Wool and I think that’s the one I’ll pick first to use for Quaker when I start it. The Shetland is a thick sport/thin DK weight and the bamboo ones are all sport weight. I can’t wait to see how they knit up but I think I may finish my current project first (tho don’t hold me to it).
I started another project by the same designer called That Nice Stitch – it’s a freebie on Ravelry – it’s so easy and I love the stitch — it really is a “nice stitch”. The actual stitch doesn’t show up real well in my photos but I started this last night and then worked on it on the bus ride to and from work today.
This yarn is so incredibly soft — probably the softest yarn I have ever used. As I went looking in my stash I found it and knew immediately it would be so wonderful to wear as a cowl. It’s Malabrigo Finito – it’s supposed to be the finest Uruguayan wool available in commercial volumes – comes to market only once a year, and is “pure superfine merino wool. It just makes you want to pet it. The colors aren’t bright (a little less bright than in the photo of the hanks of it but so many shadings mixed together – I just love it. The color is Indiecita.
I also just realized that since I haven’t been on the computer all week – I haven’t done the drawing for the giveaway but never fear those of you who left your comment for it – I’ll announce the winner this weekend — my oven timer is going off and my dinner is ready. I’m starved!
